Is this guide spoiler free?
Storywise, yes, this guide is spoiler free. However, knowing what exists is a spoiler itself, so expect some minor spoilers.
Should I use this guide or go in blind?
Baby Steps is intended to be done without a map and without a guide, especially for the first playthrough. Having said that, the experience is not ruined by following along with this guide and using IGN’s Interactive Map. If you’re reading this, you probably already prefer it this way.
Does the guide list challenges in order?
Yes, this guide is designed to help you complete everything without a lot of backtracking. Tasks listed under “To Complete Later” are delayed because they cannot be completed yet, require excessive backtracking that will be resolved later, or require a separate playthrough entirely.
What is the "To Complete Later" section?
The "To Complete Later section" shows challenges that are located in the current chapter but are postponed until later in the guide. This is either because the challenges are not yet possible, or are challenges specifically meant for their own save file. Just continue following the guide and when possible, the challenges will be completed.
Can I continue playing after I finish the game?
Yes. The game loops back around and any tasks you did not finish are still available for you to complete. The only difference is that cutscenes will not play again. It is essentially like falling back to the start.
Is it possible to lose an item forever?
Usually, no. Handheld items never despawn or reset to their original position. Wherever you drop an item, it will remain there indefinitely. This makes it possible to stash an item somewhere safe and come back to it even several chapters later. That being said, this becomes a problem if an item is dropped in an area where you can never pick it up, like in the middle of a mudslide, for example.
So, while it is technically possible to lose an item forever, it is unlikely. If you do misplace or drop an item where it cannot be recovered, you will have to start a new game to get that item again.
How many fruits, cans, graffiti, and hats are there in Baby Steps?
There are 22 stacks of cans to knock over, 21 fruits to eat, 16 hats to wear, and 34 graffiti to see. This guide willl help you find all of them. x 34 🥫 x 22 🍎 x 21 👒 x 16
Why are the cans beneath the light post impossible to knock over?
Because the developers thought it would be funny to make something impossible, knowing someone would actually pull it off—which is exactly what happened. One player managed to kick the soccer ball all the way up to that area and then kick it into the cans. However, they did have to enable saving to pull it off, because the soccer ball’s RNG makes the trick functionally impossible under normal conditions.
I dropped the Falcon / Baby Trophy. Where did it go?
The Falcon Trophy moves to a new place in the Poison Mines every time you drop it. The good news is that it glows like a fruit collectible and it is always within reach. The Baby Trophy also moves to a new location every time you drop it. It will not go too far from where you last dropped it, but it does not glow, so it is often harder to spot.
Does this guide include absolutely everything there is to climb and see in the game?
Technically, no. There are hundreds of smaller obstacles to climb and challenge yourself with. There are also two graffiti that have never been found, and who knows what else. Baby Steps is infinitely playable if you use your imagination and challenge yourself. I'm always willing to update this guide with climbs you think belong here, so just reach out.
